‘I dreamt it…’: Lionel Messi pens emotional note for fans

Lionel Messi has finally fulfilled his dream of leading Argentina to the FIFA World Cup title. The star striker also won the Golden Ball for the best player at this year’s World Cup.

The Argentina team split into tears after holding the FIFA World Cup trophy at the Lusail Stadium in Qatar yesterday after beating France in the thrilling match.  With this achievement, Messi got his hands on the only remaining trophy in his marvellous career.


After celebrating the memorable win with his team, Leo took to Instagram and penned an emotional note for his fans and supporters. The 35-year-old revealed that it was his dream to win the FIFA World Cup.

He wrote, "CHAMPIONS OF THE WORLD!!!!!!! So many times I dreamed it, so much I wanted it that I still don't fall, I can't believe it...... Thank you so much to my family, to all who support me and also to all who believed in us. We prove once again that Argentinians when we fight together and united we are able to achieve what we aim. The merit is of this group, which is above individuals, is the strength of all fighting for the same dream that was also the one of all Argentinians... We did it!!! LET'S GO ARGENTINA DAMN!!!!! We're seeing each other very soon..."

Talking about the thrilling match, Leo converted a penalty into a goal and gave Argentina a lead of 1-0 in the 23rd minute. Soon, Angel di Maria hit the ball inside the goal making it 2-0 in the 36th minute. On the other hand, France’s Mbappe scored two goals (80th and 81st-minute) and made levelled the score to 2-2.

The match entered extra time. Messi again made it 3-2 in the 108th minute, but Mbappe again levelled the score 3-3 after hitting a goal in 118 minutes. The match went to a shootout round, where Martinez proved to be the hero with saves off Aurelien Tchouameni and Kingsley Coman as Argentina secured a 4-2 win in the shootout.
