Amid Russia-Ukraine war, Ukrainian girl enjoys makeshift birthday party in refugee camp; video goes viral

Russian and Ukraine conflict has brought about the largest mass migration in Europe in decades, with over 1.5 million people having crossed from Ukraine into neighbouring nations.

The internet is filled with heartwrenching images of children and adults making their way to safety with whatever belongings they could carry with them.


In the midst of all the heartbreaking and tense bulletin coming from Ukraine, there is this video that has surfaced on social media which will surely leave you in tears.

Seven year old, identified as Arina, who recently fled Ukraine following the Russian invasion, was thrown a birthday party by volunteers and emergency personnel at a Romanian refugee camp.

The seven year-old was along with her family in a temporary tent for the refugees when the volunteers greeted her with gifts and balloons and sang her the birthday song. Arina was beaming with happiness as everyone tried their best to make the day special for her.

“Humanity... a refugee camp in Romania comes together for a Ukrainian girl on her 7th birthday... let's wish Arina a happy birthday below. Thank you to the helpers,” the video caption reads.

The seven-year-old’s family is one of the many refugees at the Siret border camp, where Romania meets Ukraine's border - about 20 miles from the city of Chernivtsi.

"More than 1.5 million refugees from Ukraine have crossed into neighbouring countries in 10 days," the UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grande tweeted.

After Russian invasion of Ukraine on 24th February, a total of 9,22,400 people have fled Ukraine to Poland, Polish border guards said on Sunday. Hungary, Moldova, Romania and Slovakia have also seen huge inflow of Ukrainian refugees.
