Vishu is one of the biggest seasons for Malayalam filmmakers. Malayalam cinema lovers were expecting three Vishu releases: Mammootty - Huma Qureshi starrer White, Jayaram - Ramya Krishnan starrer Aadupuliyattam and Kunchako Boban - Shamili starrer Valliyum Thetti Pulliyum Thetti. These three films were supposed to hit the screens on 14 April 2016, as Vishu releases. However, the release of all three movies was postponed as they couldn't risk clashing with the massive 'Theri' in Kerala.

Here's Catch's round-up of the Kerala Box Office this week

Theri

The much-awaited Tamil film of the year, Vijay starrer Theri witnessed a historical opening at the Kerala Box Office. The film registered 100 per cent occupancy across Kerala for all the shows on Vishu, the film's opening day and was reportedly released on 202 screens, which is the fourth highest release ever in Kerala. Atlee's second directorial outing released on 42 screens in Cochin and 38 screens in Trivandrum. Public demand necessitated screening the film as early as 4.30 am and tickets sold like hot cakes.

Theri has collected a massive Rs. 3.30 crore on its opening day to become the highest opener ever for a film in Kerala. The previous record was held by Shankar - Vikram's 'I' with Rs. 3.05 crore.

Theri recorded the highest opening weekend ever with collections of Rs. 9.85 crore. On Monday afternoon itself the film had crossed the coveted Rs. 10 crore mark at the Kerala Box Office. The Ilayathalapthy starrer easily surpassed the lifetime business of his previous blockbusters Thuppakki and Kaththi ( both Rs.10 crore plus grossers) in just five days.

Jacobinte Swargarajyam

Vineeth Sreenivasan's Jacobinte Swargarajyam had a solid run on its second weekend with collections similar to its opening weekend business. The overwhelmingly positive response and Nivin Pauly's stardom have worked wonders for the film and it remained unaffected by the Theri fever. At the end of its second weekend, Jacobinte Swargarajyam crossed the Rs. 10 crore mark to become Nivin's fourth 10 crore plus grosser in a row after Oru Vadakkan Selfie, Premam, and Action Hero Biju.

King Liar

Dileep's super hit film King Liar had a tough time competing with Theri and Jacobinte Swargarajyam at the Kerala Box Office. On its third weekend, the number shows reduced drastically. The total collections of the film so far are Rs. 11 crore, which adds another super hit to actor Dileep's kitty.

The Jungle Book

The Hollywood fantasy adventure, The Jungle Book continued its terrific run at Kerala Box Office by raking in more than Rs. 80 lakh in its second weekend. The English film had a good run so far with Rs. 10 crore plus collections in just 10 days.
