Ilayathalapathy Vijay's blockbuster Tamil film Theri was released on Tamil New Year, April 14, 2016. The film, which opened to an earth-shattering response all over India, is still running to packed houses in the limited cinemas of Chennai. The action-entertainer had set several new records including the fastest Tamil to cross the coveted Rs 100 crore mark worldwide within six days of its release. No wonder then that many Bollywood superstars are reportedly eyeing the Hindi remake rights of the film from the producer Kalaipuli S Thanu.
Earlier, Catch had reported that Bollywood Khiladi Akshay Kumar was planning to remake Theri under his home production, Hari Om Entertainment. The actor has earlier acquired the rights of Vijay's Thuppakki and Kaththi.
Interestingly, another Bollywood superstar is keen on buying the remake rights of Theri. According to media reports, Shah Rukh Khan, who had watched Theri recently, has shown his interest to remake the Vijay blockbuster in Hindi with Rohit Shetty. Like Akshay, SRK is also planning to produce the film under his banner, Red Chillies Entertainment.
There is no official confirmation from the Kabali producer yet. However, it will be interesting to see who wins this epic battle between two Bollywood superstars for Vijay's Theri.
