Suriya much-anticipated film, 24, continued its dominance at the Chennai Box Office and held on its own in the face of the new releases - the Bobby Simha-Nikki Galrani-Prakash Raj-starrer KO 2 and the GV Prakash-Sridivya film, Pencil.

While both KO 2 and Pencil opened to good critic reviews, this failed to translate well into sales at the ticket window.

Here is the Catch round-up of the Chennai Box Office this week:

KO 2

Sarath's KO 2 had an average opening at the Box Office. Despite the rave reviews from critics, the sequel to the hit 2011 film, KO 2 struggled to put up healthy numbers at the Box Office.

The collections of the film, which released on 95 screens in Chennai, were dented by the collections of Suriya's 24. On its opening weekend, KO 2 collected an average Rs 28 lakh from Chennai Box Office.

Pencil

Like KO 2, Mani Nagaraj's Pencil also faced stiff competition from 24 on its opening weekend. The GV Prakash-Sridivya film released on 115 screens, but the opening weekend collection were way below the mark with just Rs 27 lakh.

Still going strong

24

Suriya's 24 continued its stellar run at the Chennai Box Office by raking in collections of over Rs 1 crore on its second weekend. The science-fiction thriller has minted collections of Rs 3.90 crore so far from its 10 day theatrical run.

However, the film recorded underwhelming collections over the weekday. The performance of the film in the second week will be crucial for the Suriya film.

Captain America: Civil War

Marvel's superhero film Captain America: Civil War crossed the second weekend with flying colors. On its second weekend at the Chennai Box Office, the Hollywood film minted Rs 31 lakh from 120 screens. The film has grossed Rs 1.20 crore in just 10 days at the Chennai Box Office.

Theri

Vijay's blockbuster film Theri has successfully completed its one month theatrical run at the Chennai Box Office. The Atlee directorial thriller, which released on April 14 2016, has crossed the coveted Rs 11 crore mark record set by Rajinikanth's Enthiran, to become the top grosser in Chennai.

Theri is now Ilayathalapathy's third film in the list of top five grossers in Chennai after Kaththi and Thuppakki.
