Chennai Box Office: Kabali sees slow run while Rustom and Vikram Prabhu's Wagah soar

Last Friday saw the release of five films at the Chennai Box Office. Tamil films Wagah and Joker, Telugu film Babu Bangharam and Bollywood films Rustom and Mohenjo Daro. All the films had the benefit of the four-day Independence Day weekend.

Vikram Prabhu starrer Wagah opened to an impressive start at the Chennai Box Office during its first weekend despite receiving outright negative reviews. The GNR Kumaravelan's cross-border romance was touted as an outdated love story but the smart release timing worked for the film. From its four-day weekend, Wagah minted Rs 75 lakh from 250 shows at Chennai Box Office.

Akshay Kumar's Rustom has impressed the Tamil audience and saw good collections at Chennai Box Office. With 160 shows over the four-day weekend, the film crossed Rs 50 lakh at Chennai Box Office, which is good for a Bollywood film. Akshay Kumar's previous two films, Airlift and Housefull 3 too had worked at the Chennai Box Office.

Hrithik Roshan starrer Mohenjo Daro opened to average collections at the Chennai Box Office. The Ashutosh Gowariker directorial was expected to open with a bang, but the negativity prior to the film's release affected the film's chances at the Box Office. Mohenjo Daro has minted Rs 48 lakh from around 150 shows in Chennai.

After claiming the top spot for three successive weeks, Rajanikanth starrer Kabali has finally showed signs of slowing down at the Chennai Box Office. The Thalaiva starrer, during its fourth weekend, minted Rs 30 lakh from more than 100 shows in the city. However, the super hit film had already crossed the Rs. 12 crore mark to become the second biggest hit of the year after Ilayathalapathy Vijay's Theri.

The last release of the week, Tamil film Joker has garnered excellent reviews from critics. The Raju Murugan's social-satire film minted Rs 25 lakh with 128 shows. Joker has been praised for its story and the performances of the leading cast, Guru Somasundaram and Ramya Pandian.
