Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the Panchayati Raj Sammelan in Jamshedpur on 24 April, amidst a shutdown called by the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM).

PM Modi is going to Jamshedpur on the occasion of National Panchayati Raj Day. Around 3000 panchayat representatives from different states of the country are expected to participate in the programme.

The Prime Minister will address the gathering, which will be beamed live to all the Gram Sabhas of the country.

PM Modi will also give away prestigious awards to states like Kerala, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Sikkim, which have distributed maximum powers to Panchayats so far.

Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat will get awards for having made the maximum progress in aligning their laws to Panchayat Extension to Scheduled Areas Act 1996. This award is being given for the first time.

Meanwhile, security has been beefed up at the area as the JMM will reportedly make attempts to disrupt the Prime Minister's event, despite severe warnings of consequences by the district administration.
