Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury slammed his party colleague Kapil Sibal for the latter's "Sab ki Congress...ghar ki Congress" comment.

The Congress leader said Kapil Sibal found everything to be good when he was in the party but feels things are bad in the party now that the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government is no longer at the Centre.

"Kapil Sibal kahan ke neta hain mujhe pata nahi [I don't know from where Kapil Sibal is coming. He got many benefits from the Congress. Things were good when he was a minister in the UPA government. Now that the UPA is no longer in power, he is feeling bad [about things in Congress]", Adhir Ranjan said.

In an interview with The Indian Express, Kapil Sibal had said: “It is purely my personal view that today at least I want a ‘sab ki Congress’. Some others want a ‘Ghar ki Congress’. I certainly don’t want a ‘Ghar ki Congress’. And I will fight for a ‘sab ki Congress’ till my last breath.”

Giving an explanation for the remark, Kapil Sibal said: “This ‘sab ki Congress’ means just not getting together, but getting together all those people in India who don’t want the BJP. You take in the viewpoints of everybody, you expand your footprint in such a way that all those forces for change, who are against this autocratic capture of all institutions in this country, come together.”

Kapil Sibal said that it was time for the Gandhis to step away from leadership and give others a chance. “The Gandhis should voluntarily move away because a body nominated by them will never tell them that they should not continue to hold the reins of power,” he said. Kapil Sibal also said Rahul Gandhi is already the “de facto president” who takes all the decisions.

Kapil Sibal’s remarks displeased certain sections of the Congress party. Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Tuesday launched an attack at him, saying Sibal was “ehsaan faraamosh (ungrateful)”.

“Sibal was made Sibal [elevated to his position] by the Gandhi family. His remarks are only helping the BJP. Sibal only wants a Rajya Sabha berth. He should go to the BJP,” Chowdhury said.
