Weather: Thunderstorm, gusty winds likely in MP, Maharashtra; check full forecast

Thunderstorms and gusty winds are expected in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, And Maharashtra in the next 2 days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on April 8.

The weather department has also stated that most parts of the country are expected to witness a gradual rise in the daytime temperature of 2-4 degrees Celsius in the next five days.


Western Disturbance

The IMD has observed a cyclonic circulation over West Rajasthan and neighbourhood regions in mid tropospheric level, along with a trough in easterlies runs from Kerala to Central Maharashtra across Karnataka in lower tropospheric levels. Another cyclonic circulation has been recorded over Northeast Bangladesh & neighbourhood in lower tropospheric levels.

  • Under the influence of these disturbances, light to moderate showers with thunderstorm and gusty winds are expected in Maharashtra on April 8 and April 9.
  • Light to moderate rainfall with isolated thunderstorm is also expected in south Coastal Karnataka, North Interior Karnataka and Telangana on April 8 and in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on April 9 and April 10.
  • Light rains with isolated thunderstorm are also predicted in parts of Central India including Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha on April 8 and April 9.
  • In East India, light showers along with thunderstorm and gusty winds are likely in parts of Odisha during the next three days. Same weather activities are predicted in Jharkhand on April 9.

Maximum Temperatures Forecast

  • The maximum temperature in most parts of the country is below normal by 1-3 degrees Celsius with West Bengal, Odisha, West Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat the temperature is in the range from 38-39 degrees Celsius.
  • In Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal, Jammu, Kashmir, parts of northeastern states the daytime temperature is above normal by 1-2 degrees Celsius.  
  • The maximum temperature is expected to rise gradually by 2-4 degrees Celsius in most parts of Northwest, West, Central and East India in the next 5 days.

Heat Wave Warning

No heat wave conditions are expected in any part of the country in the next 5 days.
