Watch: Tourists rejoice as Srinagar receives fresh snowfall

Several parts of Jammu and Kashmir received fresh snowfall on January 13. Srinagar also received heavy snowfall, covering the hill city with a fresh layer of snow.

Fresh snowfall has also brought a shine to the faces of tourists, who visited Srinagar longing for snow. 


In the video shared by the news agency ANI, tourists can be seen enjoying the snowfall and throwing snowballs at each other.

However, the heavy snowfall also led to the closure of the Srinagar-Jammu national highway and affected flight operations to and fro the valley.

Higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir witnessed moderate to heavy snowfall, while areas in the plains experienced light to moderate snowfall.

Several prominent tourist destinations such as Gulmarg, Pahalgam, and Sonamarg are covered in a thick blanket of snow. 

As per the weather department, the night temperature increased at several places in the valley, the mercury settled above the freezing point in Srinagar.

The minimum temperature recorded in Sri Nagar on January 12 night was 1 degree Celsius. 

Chillai Kalan

The weather department predicted light showers in the plains of the valley and light to moderate snow over the higher reaches today. It has also predicted dry weather in Jammu and Kashmir from tomorrow till January 18.
