Amid tensions with India, Pakistan PM Imran Khan announced in the Parliament that they will be releasing Indian Air Force Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman tomorrow in a ‘peace gesture.’ This announcement came minutes before joint Indian military press briefing that was scheduled at 5 pm.

Radio Pakistan tweeted saying, “Prime Minister @ImranKhanPTI announces to release the #Indian arrested Pilot #Abhinandan by tomorrow as a peace gesture.”

Immediately after the confirmation of Abhinandan’s release from Pakistan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, ‘one pilot project completed now, real action to follow’ while speaking in an event on National Science Day.

“Aap to laboratory me zindagi gujarne wale log hai, aur apne pehle ek pilot project krne ki parampara hoti hai, aur pilots project karne scaleable kiya jata hai..... to abhi abhi ek pilot project ho gaya hai. Abhi to real karna hai, pehle to reel tha aur real ye hai k actual standing ovation aaj ke real vijaytao ke liye.”

As reported by Dawn, in the special Parliament session, before the Opposition leaders took the floor, PM Imran Khan intervened and said, ‘I wish to announce that the Indian pilot captured by Pakistan Air Force a day earlier will be released tomorrow as a peace gesture.’

The gesture was later on greeted with support from every party present in Pakistan’s Parliament.
