Watch: Fresh snowfall turns Kashmir’s Anantnag into winter wonderland; weather forecast

Parts of Kashmir received fresh snowfall on January 25. Anantnag district wore a white gown and turned into a winter wonderland after heavy snow showers.

In the video clip shared by news agency ANI, snowfall could be seen blanketing every part of the district.

However, the continuous snow showers in most parts of Kashmir have also brought down visibility to 500 metres, affecting the traffic movement to and from the valley.

Most places of Kashmir received light to moderate snowfall today while higher reaches received heavy snow showers.

Flights Delayed

All morning flights were delayed at the Srinagar airport due low visibility because of the snowfall. The flight operations will resume once the visibility improves to at least 1,000 metres.

Minimum Temperature

Kokernag in south Kashmir recorded a low of minus 0.7 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature in Kupwara settled at minus 0.6 degrees Celsius.

The valley witnessed a gradual rise in the minimum temperature. The minimum temperature in Gulmarg was minus 4.6 degrees Celsius – up from minus 9.5 degrees Celsius. Pahalgam, the base camp for the annual Amarnath Yatra, recorded a minimum temperature of minus 2.6 degrees Celsius, up six notches from the previous night.

The minimum temperature in Srinagar settled at a low of zero degree Celsius — up from minus 2.3 degrees Celsius. Qazigund registered a low of minus 0.2 degrees Celsius.

Weather Forecast

As per the MeT Department, overcast conditions with light snow or rain at isolated places were likely tomorrow, January 26.

Chillai Kalan

Kashmir valley is currently under the grip of ‘Chillai Kalan’ - the harshest weather period of 40 days when chances of snowfall are maximum and most frequent. It started on December 21 and will end on January 30.
