BJP leader Vijendra Gupta criticised the Delhi government on 4 August for recommending setting up of an inquiry commission to probe the cases of alleged police inaction in cases of sexual harassment. Gupta who is the Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly said that despite home secretary's objection the AAP government issued a show cause notice to home Secretary S N Sahai for his objection.

"Sahai had said that formation of Commission of Inquiry does not come under the jurisdiction of the Delhi Government.

Surprisingly, the government issued show cause notice to Sahai," he claimed. The BJP leader said that by proposing such a commission, the AAP dispensation was diverting the issue.

Amid AAP government's standoff with police on a range of issues, the Delhi Assembly today recommended setting up of an inquiry commission to probe alleged police inaction in cases of sexual harassment, stalking and voyeurism since February 2013 when a stringent anti-rape law had come into force.

A resolution providing for the appointment of the Commission of Inquiry to be headed by a retired Judge was passed in the one-day Special Session, called to discuss threadbare the issue of women security in the city.

The commission will give its recommendations on various issues, including women safety and police welfare.
