Supreme Court stays Meghalaya HC order of contempt against Shillong Times editor

The Supreme Court in its order today has stayed the Meghalaya High Court decision which led to the contempt proceedings against the editor and publisher of The Shillong Times.

Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, who was heading the bench, has issued notice to registrar of the Meghalaya High Court in the matter as an appeal was filed by the editor and publisher of the newspaper.


Earlier, the Meghalaya High Court had held that the editor and publisher were to be imprisoned for six months, a penalty of Rs 2 lakh each and and the paper should be “banned.”
