Shraddha Walkar Murder Case: Aaftab Poonawala disposed off head last; looked at it daily

Delhi Police, on November 15, took Aaftab Amin Poonawala, accused of allegedly strangling his girlfriend (Shraddha Walkar) inside their house and chopping her body into 35 pieces, to the forest area in Chhatarpur where he dumped her body parts piece by piece.

Cops are searching for the head of Shraddha Walkar as Aaftab may not have been able to mutilate the head with a saw and meat cleaver. The police feel that recovery of the victim’s head will aid in establishing the victim’s identity.

Poonawala purportedly confessed during the interrogation that he disposed off the head last and used to look at it in the freezer every day. The accused claimed to have said that he kept the head in the refrigerator and often looked at it in memory of their relationship.

Aaftab Poonawala was arrested by the Delhi Police after the complaint by Shraddha’s father. Aaftab, who works at a call centre in Gurugram, confessed to strangling Shraddha Vikas Walkarand chopping her body into 35 pieces for over two days, storing them into a refrigerator (for three months) and dumping the body parts piece by piece in a forest near Chhattarpur and Qutub Minar.

Police are searching for the head to establish the victim's identity using skull superimposition technology. Currently, the cops are dependent on a DNA test, matching the DNA with Shraddha’s father - Vikas Walkar. The recovered bones have been sent for DNA sampling and the report is awaited.

The accused allegedly used chemicals such as orthoboric acid (boric powder), formaldehyde, sulphuric acid, etc. during the chopping, storing, and disposing of the body parts.
