Four Kashmiri students were allegedly assaulted for cooking meat in their hostel room in Mewar University, Rajasthan, by another group of students residing in the same hostel on Monday night.

Several Hindu fringe elements received information of the incident and gathered outside the private university situated in Gangrar. As the situation worsened, the university authorities closed the main gate of the campus. Meanwhile, the agitated mob set the meat shop near the university on fire. They also took to blocking the national highway.

According to police, few students were cooking meat in room #201 of the newly-constructed hostel. This news spread among the other students of the hostel. The Kashmiri students were dragged out and thrashed when they were forced to open the door. Soon after this, other Kashmiri students residing in the same hostel rushed to their peers' room and clashed with the assaulting group of students.

"We have collected the meat and sent it for tests," informed Prasann Kumar Khamsera, police superintendent, Chittorgarh.
