Rafale Verdict: Govt files 'clarification affidavit' in SC, says, 'Supreme Court judgement misinterpreted the procedure'

Rafale Verdict

In the recent development of the Rafale deal verdict, the government has filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court saying that the judgement of the apex court was misinterpreted.

In the affidavit filed before the Supreme Court, the government has said that the report of the Rafale deal is still pending before the Comptroller and Auditor General and it had only cited the procedure while filing the response in the Supreme Court. But the apex court has misinterpreted the instance.

This is being seen as a damage control being done by the BJP government, wherein they are now at the back foot after the Chief Justice in its verdict had said that the report of Rafale was shared with the CAG, which in return has presented it before the PAC and then tabled in the parliament.

But, in reality, no such proceedings happened and the Narendra Modi government might now be red faced if the petitioners move in with a review petition.

Senior Congress leader has said, "Government is responsible for giving wrong facts to the Supreme Court. I think the Attorney General should be called before the PAC and be asked why wrong facts were presented. This is a very serious matter."
