Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 14 April paid tribute to Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, the architect of Indian constitution, on the occasion of his 125th birth anniversary.

PM Modi said that Dr Ambedkar, who is popularly known as Babasaheb, was a 'Vishwa Manav' who devoted his life to serve the poor and the marginalised.

"On his Jayanti, I bow to the venerable Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. Jai Bhim," Prime Minister Modi said in a tweet. "His economic vision was unique, with a strong emphasis on welfare of the farmer as well as worker," he added.

A function to commemorate Ambedkar Jayanti will be held on the lawns of the Parliament house complex later today where political leaders and people from different walks of life will pay floral tributes at the statue of Dr Ambedkar.

Functions will also be organised all over the country to remember his contribution to the nation. The day is also being observed as Social Harmony Day.

Social justice and Empowerment Minister Thaawar Chand Gehlot said that Babasaheb laid the foundation of social reforms in the country in the true sense, adding that people should resolve to strengthen social harmony in the country which will be a true tribute to him.
