Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 5 October chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) to discuss the security scenario in the wake of the surgical strikes on terror launch pads across the LoC.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Defence Monister Manohar Parrikar, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj were also present at the meeting.

According to reports, Rajnath Singh, who also visited to Leh and Kargil to interact with a cross-section of people and take their suggestions on a resolution of the Kashmir issue, briefed PM Modi about his two-day visit.

Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated after the surgical strikes carried out on the intervening night of 28 and 29 September on terror launch pads across the LoC.

Pakistan has intensified cross-LoC firing and shelling since the surgical strikes.

Pakistani troops have violated the border ceasefire five times in two days now. Yesterday, Pakistan troops pounded Indian military and civilian positions in 10 areas along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu region, provoking retaliation.
