Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Muzaffar Hussain Baig on Thursday hit out at party chief Mehbooba Mufti for her comment in which she had connected holding of the Indian national flag to revocation of Article 370 and stated such "statements resulted in downgrading Jammu and Kashmir from a state to Union Territory".

Muzaffar Hussain Baig a senior PDP leader, made a comment during a press conference. He was responding to a question on Mehbooba Mufti’s previous remark that no one will hold the Indian national flag in J&K, if Article 370 is tampered with.

"Statements like that resulted in downgrading J-K from state to Union Territory. That did not help us. That should not have been made," he said.

"My opinion is that if you want to talk about issues relating to people of Jammu and Kashmir, you will have to talk in a dignified and civilised manner. You can't achieve anything by coercing Prime Minister, Home Minister or NSA," he said.

Article 370, which offered special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir, was repealed in the month of August 2019. The Parliament also passed a bill that bifurcated the state into two union territories.
