Palestine President accorded reception at Rashtrapati Bhawan

Palestine President Mahmoud Abbas, who arrived in India on a four-day visit, was given a ceremonial reception in the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhawan ahead of his delegation level talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday.

"Deepening historically close & friendly ties. Mr. Mahmoud Abbas, President of Palestine receives ceremonial honours at @RashtrapatiBhvn," Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Gopal Baglay tweeted.

President Abbas will layed a wreath at Raj Ghat, the memorial of Father of Nation Mahatama Gandhi before going for bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Several agreements are expected to be signed between both sides after the talks at Hyderabad House.

This is President Abbas' fifth visit and third state visit to India.

Vice-President Hamid Ansari and Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj will call on President Abbas during his stay in Delhi.

India and Palestine enjoy historical friendly ties.

Apart from extending the political support to the Palestinian cause, India continues to support developmental projects in Palestine by extending technical and financial assistance.

The visit will provide an opportunity for reviewing the entire gamut of bilateral relations, the Middle East Peace Process, regional and international issues.
