Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced a compensation of Rs. 1 crore to the kin of the ex-serviceman who committed suicide over the OROP issue.

Sympathising with the family of Ram Kishan Grewal, Kejriwal said that the Prime Minister should have met the family of the soldier.

"A soldier committed suicide; is this a small issue? The issue they have raised of One Rank, One Pension (OROP) is also right. We are receiving calls from serving officers since morning, they are saying that 'you are doing the right thing, we can't say anything as we are within the army," Kejriwal told the media.

Additionally, Haryana Transport Minister, Krishan Lal Panwar has also announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the family of Ram Kishan Grewal & a job to any one of his family member.

Grewal's cremation will take place at his hometown Bhiwani in Haryana today.

Meanwhile, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi also reached Bhiwani to meet the grieving family. Rahul had met with the family yesterday and accused the Delhi Police of illegally detaining and abusing them.

This comes a day after Gandhi was stopped near the gates of the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and then taken to the Mandir Marg Police station.

70-year-old ex-serviceman Ram Kishan Grewal committed suicide by consuming poison at a park in New Delhi allegedly over the delay of implementation of the OROP scheme.
