Cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu announced on 2 September that he was floating a new political party - the Awaaz-e-Punjab - along with Ludhiana's Bains brothers and former Akali Dal member Pargat Singh.
Making the announcement, Sidhu's wife Navjot Kaur said that the new front would take on all who were against Punjab. "Along with Pargat Singh and Bains brothers we have formed a front, this will be against those working against Punjab," Navjot Kaur told ANI.

Sidhu quit his Rajya Sabha's membership in the month of July.
After Sidhu left the BJP, speculation was rife that he may join the Aam Aadmi Party ahead of the assembly elections in Punjab. AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal had fueled reports further when he said that Sidhu's request for time to take a decision about joining the AAP should be respected.
