Few days prior to their scheduled date of execution, Pawan Kumar Gupta, a convict in the gang rape and murder of a 23-year-old medical student in Delhi, today filed a curative plea before the Supreme Court seeking his death sentence be clanged to life imprisonment.

Pawan Gupta is the only convict in the case who has not used up his legal options of a curative plea and then a mercy plea before the President.

The mercy plea of the three other convicts have already been rejected by President Ram Nath Kovind.

Previously, the top court had rejected the petitions submitted by Mukesh Kumar Singh and Vinay Kumar that objected to the rejection of their mercy plea. Akshay Kumar has not yet challenged the rejection of his mercy plea.

Earlier, a Delhi court had stated that the convicts will be executed on 3rd March, which was the third death warrent by the court. The two earlier ones couldn’t be performed because the convicts took turns to use their legal option.

The four convicts, along with two others had gang-raped the young women and abused her with an iron rod on the night of 16th December, 2012. She passed away on 29th December at a hospital in Singapore.
