Congress leader and Punjab Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu on Monday made a shocking statement over his political career. Cricketer-turned-politician Sidhu is ready to quit is politics after 15 years. He said he will quit politics if Congress president Rahul Gandhi losses from Amethi in Lok Sabha elections.

Sidhu also said that people should learn nationalism from UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, who is the sitting MP from Rae Bareli.

Sidhu started his political career in 2004 by joining Bharatiya Janata Party and contested from Amritsar in a national election. However, in 2017, Sidhu joined Congress and was elected to the Punjab Legislative Assembly from Amritsar East.

Congress leader also refuted BJP’s allegations that there has been no development in 70-years under Congress rule. Rather, the country made everything from a needle to an aircraft during this period, Sidhu said.

Congress supremo Rahul Gandhi faces a tough fight in the family bastion Amethi from BJP’s pitted Smriti Irani. However, Gandhi had defeated Smriti in 2014 from Amethi.

Amethi is scheduled to vote on May 6, along with Rae Bareli-- a home turf of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi. The counting of votes will be done on May 23rd.
