Schools and colleges remained closed in Talegaon area of Nashik on 10 October, a day after a five-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 16-year-old boy.

The agitated villagers have also reportedly blocked the highway causing massive traffic jams. The angry protestors also torched government buses and pelted stones at the convoy of Water Resources Minister Girish Mahajan yesterday.

Meanwhile, the police informed that the gynaecologists have been constantly monitoring the victim's health.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also asserted that the accused had been arrested and an order to file an chargesheet has been given. Nashik Police Commissioner Ravindra Singhal has appealed people to maintain peace, in the view of the current situation.

The 16-year-old boy allegedly raped the girl at an isolated place at Talegaon village under Trimbakeshwar taluka in the district on 8 October.

The villagers also staged 'rasta roko' in Wadovhare, Ghoti and Anjaneri-phata areas. Some people set tyres on fire, and also damaged a tractor in Talegaon. A group of people also protested at Nashik Civil Hospital and demanded that the victim be examined by a woman doctor.
