Candidates from across Maharashtra state are flocking to Mumbai city for the police recruitment drive. However, before being recruited, they face a plethora of troubles due to the lack of proper arrangements made for them.

Thousands of students are forced to sleep on the footpath and defecate in the open because of the lacking of proper arrangements. According to Mid-Day, they also do not receive food and water to drink. As a result, candidates become exhausted during the physical tests and are unable to perform at their best.

Recently, on February 17, a candidate named Ganesh Ugale died during the recruitment drive while participating in a 1600-meter race, which was a part of the physical test of the police recruitment drive. During the race, the 26-year-old suddenly felt dizzy and collapsed on the ground. He hailed from Washim and had come to Mumbai for the police recruitment drive.

This is not the first incident where candidates have lost their lives during police recruitment drives in Maharashtra. In 2010, a candidate died and several others were injured during a stampede in Kalina that broke out during a recruitment drive. Similarly, in 2014, four candidates lost their lives while taking the test for police recruitment. In response to these incidents, the police department decided to provide basic facilities to aspirants such as tents, water, and toilets. However, according to Mid-Day, during this recruitment drive, no such arrangements were made.
