Meerut: Upper caste men allegedly assaulted a Dalit youth, forced to abuse Dr BR Ambedkar; video goes viral

In a shocking incident, a 22-year-old Dalit youth was allegedly brutally assaulted by upper caste men in Meerut's Qila Parikshitgarh area and was forced to abuse Dr BR Ambedkar. The entire incident is reportedly said to happen on July 18, which was captured by one of the accused men and was later circulated on social media.

An FIR has been filed against the three men, identified as Rahul, Bholu and Beenu, under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 328 (causing hurt by means of poison), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 365 (kidnapping) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the SC/ST Act at Parikshitgarh police station on Monday.


“Raids are on to arrest the accused who have been absconding ever since the matter was reported to us,” said Rajesh Kumar, superintendent of police (rural areas).

In the viral video, the 22-year-old victim, known as lovely can be seen being brutally beaten up and forced to abuse Ambedkar. In the 30 seconds video, the man can be seen standing folded hands while he is repeatedly assaulted by the accused youths, who keep hurling abuse at him.

The video comes days after an Amnesty International report stated that had reported the highest number of hate crimes in the country in the first six months of 2018. Of the 18 instances of hate crime till June, the highest number was from western UP.
