Maharashtra: Section 144 imposed, janata curfew prolonged till Monday morning

With coronavirus positive cases rising to over 70 in the state of Maharashtra, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has requested people to comply with the janata curfew till Monday morning and thereafter ordered to enforce Section 144 across the state fro Monday till 31st March.

"I would like to request everyone to continue Janata Curfew till tomorrow [Monday] morning. The number of cases has increased considerably. I have no option left but to apply Section 144 in Maharashtra. Not more than 5 people can be gathered on roads," Uddhav Thackeray said on Sunday.


The Maharashtra Chief Minister further stated that no flights outside of India will be allowed to land in Mumbai till 31st March.

Uddhav Thackeray also strictly adviced people in self isolation to stay indoors and away from people.

"Those who are self-quarantined are requested to stay indoors since the virus will now start to multiply and if we want to avoid it, we have maintained isolation even at home," Uddhav Thackeray said.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister also announced some provision which he said need to be followed till March 31.

"Local trains, long-distance trains, bus services are also stopped. Intra-city bus services will continue only for those who are working for essential services, Uddhav Thackeray said.

However, he stated that essential survices like groceries, milk and vegetable supply and banks will remain open.

"Only 5 per cent of the government employees will continue to work. Earlier, it was 25 per cent but we have brought the number further down," Uddhav Thackeray said.

Uddhav Thackeray also urged industries and companies to pay minimum wages to labours and "not leave humanitarian approach".

Earlier, state Health Minister Rajesh Tope confirmed that ten fresh cases were reported taking the total number of cases to 74.
