As the Madhya Pradesh goes out to vote, the fate of CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his desire for a fourth term will hang on several issues including the agrarian distress.

Although, after becoming the chief minister of the state thrice in a row, Shivraj is now under severe pressure form the Opposition and the aam aadmi for tackling with the rurl issues and resolving the farmer’s crisis.

CM Shivraj has been referred as the ‘son of farmer’ and hence, the agricultural productivity in his state should have been the highest but that is not the case. Madhya Pradesh is currently the fourth poorest state in India, after UP, Bihar and Jharkhand as per the government’s data and it has in itself revealed the backwardness of the state.

Shivraj has declared his income and a total assets at Rs 7.66 crore, which is around 22% higher than that of Rs 6.27 crore as declared in 2013. In this year’s election, CM Chouhan has named Rs 3.26 crore under his belt and his wife Sadhna Singh has Rs 4.40 crore.

The total sum of the assets include Agricultural Land = Rs 475 lakh, Residential Properties = Rs 160 lakh, Loans given = Rs 75lakh, Bank balance = Rs 31 lakh, Jewellery = Rs 19 lakh, Other assets = Rs 6 lakh.

While the BJP is also going in with the highest number of crorepati candidates this time, with 179 candidates it is topping the list. The Congress party is a near second with 173 crorepati candidates and the BSP has 52, whereas the Aam Aadmi Party which showcases itself as the common people’s desire, has 38 crorepati candidates. The last in the list is Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party, who has 17 candidates with more than a crore assets.
