The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued Orange alert in parts Kerala for Tuesday. The state is witnessing heavy downpour which also disrupted the assembly by-elections today, held in Ernakulam. Trains services have also been affected due to the heavy rains.

IMD has issued alert in 13 districts namely Wayanad, Kollam, Malappuram, Alapuzha, Idukki, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod.

Polling booths were submerged in Ernakulam due to rain. Political parties asked the Election Commission to postpone the elections. To this state chief electoral officer, Tikaram Meena replied that they are looking into the matter and will soon come with a solution.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s office tweeted that stay weather aware because inclement weather is likely to hit the state. “Orange alerts have been issued for districts from Thiruvananthapuram to Wayanad. Kannur and Kasargod are under yellow alert.”

In Ernakulam, train services were also suspended after railway tracks were submerged which led to the waters entring the Ernakulam junction railway station.

Also, for the next two days, the weather may get intensified and with rains, strong winds are likely to accompany.
