Karnataka Floor Test: Congress Deputy CM Parameshwara says no decision on backing CM HD Kumaraswamy for five years term

After the high voltage drama, the Karnataka government formation has reached its last stage as JDS' HD Kumaraswamy swear-in as Karnataka's 25th Chief Minister on Wednesday, 23rd May. Well, in a twist and turn in the state, the drama hasn't ended, as Congress' Deputy CM G Parameshwara on Thursday said the party had taken not yet take any decision to support H D Kumaraswamy as CM for the full five-year-term.

“We have not yet discussed those modalities, Parameshwara said. “The issue is yet to be discussed and finalised. Our immediate aim is to pass the floor test, allocate portfolios and provide good administration. The modalities, including sharing the CM post, are yet to be worked out,” said Parameshwara who is also head of the state Congress.

G Parameshwara made the statement in the response to a question during a press conference after taking oath as Deputy CM on Thursday.

HD Kumaraswamy, who is completely dependent on Congress for his survival as chief minister with just 37 lawmakers, had earlier ruled out the possibility of splitting the chief ministership with the coalition partner. While addressing his first press conference after taking over as CM on Wednesday, “No such talks have taken place,” he had said.

“Our only aim is to make this a model coalition. On my tenure and other modalities of government formation, we are yet to have a meeting,” he added.

Congress leader Ramesh Kumar was on Friday unanimously elected the Speaker of the Karnataka Assembly after the Bharatiya Janata Party’s S Suresh Kumar withdrew his nomination for the post, PTI reported. CM HD Kumaraswamy to face floor test.
