As the early results show that the Congress party is leading with more than 115 seats and is expected to form a majority government in Karnataka, BJP's veteran leader BS Yediyurappa accepted the people's mandate on May 13. He stated that the victory and defeat are not solely attributed to his party and that they will introspect about the setback.

The BJP stalwart also praised the efforts put by his party workers and leaders, emphasizing that there is no need to panic over the state election results.

"Victory and defeat aren't new to BJP. Party workers need not be panicked by these results. We will introspect about the party's setback. I respectfully accept this verdict," said BS Yediyurappa.

Earlier in the day, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai also conceded defeat and expressed confidence in the BJP's victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Bommai mentioned that a detailed analysis would be conducted to examine the gaps that existed at various levels once the final results are out.

"We have not been able to make the mark. Once the results are announced, we will conduct a detailed analysis. As a national party, we will not only analyze but also identify the deficiencies and gaps that existed at various levels. We take this result in our stride," stated Basavaraj Bommai.

According to early trends, the Congress party is leading with 113 seats (as of 2:25 pm) and is expected to form a majority government in Karnataka. The minimum requirement to form a majority government is 113 seats. Meanwhile, the BJP is leading in 54 seats, and the JDS is leading in 18 seats, according to the data shown on Election Commission of India’s website.

Congress veteran leader Siddaramaiah stated that the people of the state are fed up with the BJP government and desire a change, emphasizing that it's a significant victory for the Grand Old Party.

Siddaramaiah criticized the BJP, highlighting that despite investing a substantial amount of money in 'Operation Kamala', they failed to secure victory in the state.

He also praised the 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, noting that it played a role in connecting the people of the country and motivating party workers.

"It is a big victory for the Congress party. The people of Karnataka wanted a change because they were fed up with the BJP government. The BJP spent a lot of money on 'Operation Kamala'. Rahul ji's Padyatra also played a significant role in inspiring the party cadre," Siddaramaiah stated, as quoted by ANI.

The fiercely contested election, characterized by high-pitched campaigns from the political parties, holds significant importance for both the BJP and the Congress.
