Kanjhawala Death Case

In the latest development in the Kanjhawala death case, in which a 20-year-old woman was killed after being dragged for several kilometres by a car, Delhi's Rohini Court on January 2 remanded the five accused to 3-day police custody. They were produced in a closed courtroom amid tight security.

Meanwhile, teams of Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) along with Delhi police reached the crime spot in Delhi’s Sultanpuri area to collect evidence.

Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Sagar Preet Hooda said that a medical board has been constituted to conduct the autopsy of the victim.

"We have added sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) in the FIR.  The accused will be taken to the scene of crime for inspection. The car will be examined by forensic experts," Hooda said.

Police have also taken samples from the accused to check if they were in an inebriated condition at the time of the accident.

Earlier in the day, huge crowd gathered at Sultanpuri Police Station and staged a protest demanding justice for the woman.

The woman, who worked for an event management company, died in agony after her scooter collided with a car, her clothes entangled in the wheels, due to which she was dragged for several kilometers in the Khanjawala area.

Earlier in the day, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal termed the incident ‘rarest of the rare crimes’ and demanded capital punishment for the accused.

“It's an unfortunate incident that a group of men dragged a woman under their car and she died. I appeal that all the accused should be given stringent punishment & be hanged. It's rarest of rare crimes,” said Kejriwal.

AAP workers also protested outside the residence of Delhi LG Vinai Saxena and demanded justice for the victim.

The victim’s mother expressed a possibility of molestation with her saying, “.She was wearing so many clothes but not a single piece of cloth was there on her body, what kind of accident was it.”

Police are investigating the case from all angles.
