Jawaharlal Nehru University Student Union president Kanhaiya Kumar was heckled by lawyers at the Patiala House Court, where he was produced today. The assault came after over 50 lawyers went berserk and beat up JNU students and threatened journalists.

Taking serious note of the matter, the Supreme Court said that those responsible for the violence would be taken to task "irrespective of their profession".

According to a Legally India report, the Supreme Court bench, comprising Justice J Chelameswar and Justice Abhay Manohar Sapre, constituted a six-member committee to report on the situation at Patiala House Court - after they were informed about the sloganeering at the court. The committee comprises Kapil Sibal, Rajeev Dhawan, Dushyant Dave, Ajit Sinha, AGN Rao and Harin Rawal

Justice J Chelameswar also spoke to Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi, who has come under attack for not being able to crackdown on violence in the court premises in a similar incident on 15 February.

Meanwhile, the police detained NSUI workers protesting at Raisina Road (Delhi) against the JNU row.
