‘Kai Po Che’: International Kite Festival 2023 begins in Gujarat [WATCH]

The vibrant international kite festival kicked off in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad with a grand opening ceremony on January 8. State Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated the kite festival.

The kite festival has been organized after being halted for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, the colourful extravaganza is based on the G20 theme of 'One Earth, One Family, One Future' and is organised in Ahmedabad and other cities of Gujarat. It will be celebrated until Makar Sankranti day, January 14, 2023.

Kites in demand

Kites printed with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the newly introduced cheetah are in demand. Eagle and octopus shape kites are also very popular among enthusiasts. On the other hand, Coloured kite strings are also in demand as Gujaratis also like to fight kites in the sky and scream ‘Kai Po Che’.

Kite enthusiasts from across the world

Kite enthusiasts from across the world are participating in the prominent kite festival. The Gujarat government is also ensuring the creation of a Guinness World Record for the largest number of enthusiasts from across countries flying kites at the same time.

Selfie booths

With the inauguration ceremony of the international kite festival, the skies in Gujarat have been adorned with special kites in the shape of India’s G20 Presidency Logo. Besides flying kites, a lot of activities are also going on at the grounds, like, selfie booths that have been set up with G20 themes along with the theme of “One Earth, One Family, One Future” so that visitors can take memorable selfies of the vibrant festival. The festival is being organised by the Gujarat Tourism Corporation Ltd.

However, the celebration also helped thousands of people find employment at hundreds of kite-making workshops across Gujarat. In Gujarat, kite flying is quite popular during the kite festival and continues through Makar Sankranti, and people of all ages fly kites in the sky.
