Jharkhand: Youth arrested for beef comment on WhatsApp group died of torture, autopsy reveals

Minhaz Ansari, 22, the man who was arrested in Jharkhand for making objectional comments on beef died due to torture and police beating and not because of encephalitis, confirmed the post-mortem report today.

According to a NDTV report, Ansari's body bore abrasions and internal injury.

Ansari belonged from Jamtara district and was arrested on 3 October. A senior police officer, Ramesh Kumar Dubey, had said that the message which Ansari had shared had the potential to disturb communal peace.

The Police had said that since Ansari was the administrator of the WhatsApp group, he was arrested and the others were let go.

Harish Pathak, the officer in charge was suspended following the youngster's death. A complaint of attempted murder has been slapped on Pathak. He has also been booked for harassing a woman as he allegedly got into a fight with Ansari's family.
