The Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, on 9 November said India is largely peaceful but needs to control the fringe elements to maintain harmony in the society.
The Dalai Lama urged media and spiritual leaders to play a pivotal role.
"I think basically, compared to neighbouring state, this country (is) very peaceful and very harmonious but that doesn't mean 100 percent. So some problems happen. I think media people as well as leaders, particularly spiritual leaders, should pay more attention about this one percent," Dalai Lama said in Chennai.
Dalai Lama was in the city to launch awards named after late president APJ Abdul Kalam.
