Hyderabad encounter: This is how politicians, celebs react to killing of 4 accused

The nation woke up to the news about all four accused in Hyderabad rape-murder case had been killed in an encounter with the police in the wee hours of Friday.

The brutal rape and murder of young doctor had triggered nationwide shock and protests after her burnt body was found at Hyderabad.


While some people lauded the Hyderabad police for serving the 'justice', showering them with rose petals, distributing sweets, women tying rakhis to police personnel and shouting slogans praising them, some citizen have also questioned the legality of the encounter.


Here are the reactions of politicians and celebrities:


Jaya Bachchan, Rajya Sabha MP:

Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan reacted on the same by saying, “Der aaye, durust aaye...der aaye, bohot der aaye.”

Maneka Gandhi, Lok Sabha MP:

The former Union Minister and Lok Sabha MP Menaka Gandhi said, "Jo hua hai bohot bhayanak hua hai desh ke liye (What happened was horrifying for the country). You can't take law in your hands, they(accused) would've been hanged by Court anyhow. If you are going to shoot them before due process of law has been followed, then what's the point of having courts, law, and police ?"

Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi CM:

Reacting on the Hyderabad encounter case, the Delhi CM today said, the rape cases that have come to light of late, people are in danger whether it is Unnao or Hyderabad, so people are expressing happiness over the encounter. It is also something to be worried about, the way people have lost their faith in the criminal justice system. Together all the governments will have to take action on how to strengthen the criminal justice system.

Bhupesh Baghel, Chhattisgarh CM:

The Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and Congress leader Baghel on Friday said, "When a criminal tries to escape, police are left with no other option, it can be said that justice has been done."

 

Husain Dalwai, Rajya Sabha MP:

The Rajya Sabha MP and Congress leader Dalwai said, "It's wrong and can't be supported. Police taking law in their hands and making a mockery of it can't be supported. An inquiry should be done. Just because some people are supporting the encounter doesn't make it right. Some even support lynching."

Navneet Rana, Independent MP:

The independent Member of Parliament said, "Being a mother, a daughter and a wife, I welcome this, or else they would be in jail for years. Nirbhaya ka naam bhi nirbhaya nahi tha, logon ne naam diya tha,mujhe lagta hai use naam dene ke bajaye inhe aisa anjaam dena zaruri hai."

 

Apart from political leaders, celebrities and sports personalities have also reacted to the encounter.

Bollywood singer Vishal Dadlani criticizing the encounter said, "We live in a time where the absolute failure of the justice system is hailed as "justice". Just so you know, cops killing people without a trial can land at your door too, someday."

Veteran actor Anupam Kher praised the Hyderabad police after the four accused. Taking to Twitter the actor said: "Congratulations on shooting down the four rapists."

Actor Nagarjuna also lauded the Hyderabad police and said: "This morning I wake up to the news and JUSTICE HAS BEEN SERVED!! #Encounter."


This apart, sports personality also reacted to the Hyderabad encounter incident.
Athlete Saina Nehwal also lauded the Hyderabad police and said great work and we are proud of you. 

However, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has criticized the encounter. Taking to Twitter Chopra wrote: "Recreating the crime scene at 3.30 am. Four unarmed men needed to be shot (dead) when they (supposedly) tried to flee. Show no mercy to the perpetrators of such heinous crimes but this seems to be the case of ‘two wrongs won’t make a right’."

"They are trained to shoot in areas that won’t kill a human being. They were unarmed. In police custody. By the way...will something like this ever happen to Ram Rahim and Asaram?? They’re accused of rape too. And yes...I WANT capital punishments for heinous crimes. But by law," Chopra later said in a reply to a Twitter user.

The four accused in rape and murder of woman veterinarian were killed in an encounter with the police when the accused tried to escape while being taken to the crime spot. The accused--Mohammed Arif, Naveen, Shiva, and Chennakeshavulu were killed in a Police encounter at Chatanpally, Shadnagar today in the wee hours, between 3 am and 6 am.
