The accused father of the victim, Venka Reddy has been taken in custody. Reddy had an argument with his daughter over her relationship and allegedly strangled her in a fit of rage.

"The father suspected that his daughter was planning to elope with her classmate and in a fit of rage, he strangled her. We have registered a case of suspicious death. According to reports in NDTV, the man, whom Vaishnavi was dating reportedly belongs to a lower caste. Her father had asked her not to meet him but she refused.

The Andhra police said that Vaishnavi had "neither married her classmate nor eloped with him", only her father Reddy was not happy with her relationship with a man from the lower class.
