Goa: IRB constable arrested for stalking, outraging modesty of woman

A recent incident in Goa has led to the arrest of an Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) constable by Mapusa Police. The constable is accused of stalking a woman and issuing threats to her husband.

The Stalking and Threats
A woman from Bardez in North Goa alleged that on September 1, IRB constable Suraj Shailendra Saxena and his friend, Babit Naik, followed her with the intention of establishing personal contact. The situation escalated as they engaged in persistent stalking.


Verbal Abuse and Intimidation
Constable Saxena reportedly subjected the woman and her husband to verbal abuse, using vulgar language. Additionally, he allegedly threatened them, creating an environment of fear and intimidation.

FIR Registration
In response to the complaint, Mapusa Police filed a First Information Report (FIR), citing sections of the Indian Penal Code: Section 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), Section 354-D (Stalking), Section 509 (Word, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), and Section 506 (ii) (Criminal intimidation).

Constable's Arrest
Following the FIR registration, the accused constable was promptly arrested. The search for the other accused, Babit Naik, is ongoing.

Departmental Inquiry
The Police Department has initiated an internal inquiry into the constable's involvement in the incident. This inquiry will determine potential departmental actions.

Ongoing Investigation
Superintendent of Police, North, Nidhin Valsan, IPS, is supervising an active investigation.
