Samajwadi Party leader and Uttar Pradesh minister Azam Khan sparked off a controversy with his statement against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lawmaker from Gorakhpur, Yogi Adityanath.

Khan reportedly said that Adityanath should "get married to prove his masculinity".

Seeking dismissal of the statement, BJP and Hindu Yuva Vahini workers blocked the Gorakhpur-Nepal road, on 4 May. They were reportedly chanting 'Jai Shri Ram', 'Gorakhpur mein rehna hai to Yogi Yogi kehna hai' and 'Azam Khan murdabad'.

The BJP protestors also handed a memorandum to the additional district magistrate demanding the dismissal of the UP minister from the state cabinet.
