An FIR was filed on 8 May against former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda for his alleged involvement in the National Herald scam.

The Haryana Vigilance Department registered a case against Hooda for the illegal allocation of land at Panchkula in 2005 to the Associated Journals Ltd (AJL) - which published the National Herald.

Hooda, who was also the ex-officio chairman of the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA), said that it was only political vendetta and alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party, has been indulging in vengeance and replacement ever since it came to power.

Hindustan Times quoted Haryana Congress president Ashok Tanwar as saying, "We believe the then government followed all the norms and procedures and there was no irregularity in allotment of the plot. We hope truth comes clear out of this artificial controversy being created by the BJP government."
