Former bureaucrat Sunil Arora appointed as the new chief election commissioner and will take charge after OP Rawat demits charge

Former bureaucrat Sunil Arora has appointed as the chief election commissioner. His name has been cleared by the President of India Ram Nath Kovind, who announced his name as the chief election commissioner.

Meanwhile, Arora is currently election commissioner and will take over the charge as chief election commissioner on 2nd December 2018. He will take the charge when the current chief OP Rawat demits office. Ashok Lavasa is the second election commissioner.


However, he has been appointed as the new chief elections commissioner during the assembly elections will be held in the five states, which are being also considered as the semi-final to the 2019 Loksabha elections.

Arora has also been served as the secretary in the ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship. He was an IAS officer of 1980-batch of the Rajasthan cadre. He has been served stints in ministries like finance, textiles and planning commission and served as joint secretary in the ministry of civil aviation.

Talking about his education, he has completed his BA in English Literature Hons. and MA English Literature from Panjab University, Chandigarh.
