FIR against Abhijeet Bhattacharya for obscene language

The police on Thursday filed an FIR against playback singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya for public obscenity and outrage of modesty, based on a complaint by Aam Aadmi Party leader Preeti Sharma Menon at the cyber cell.

In her complaint, Menon said that she had tweeted to the police commissioner about the singer's use of obscene language against a woman journalist in a spat on social media, and that Bhattacharya had responded to her tweet using abusive language, says The Indian Express.

Bhattacharya has been booked under Sections 500 and 509 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act.

He had been involved in a Twitter spat on Sunday when he tweeted that the murder of Swathi S, an Infosys techie in Chennai, was the result of 'love jihad'. When Delhi-based journalist Swati Chaturvedi and jantakareporter.com's editor-in-chief Rifat Jawaid corrected him, Bhattacharya allegedly turned abusive.
