Delhi HC rejects CBI special director Rakesh Asthana's plea, FIR will not be quashed; allots 10 weeks time to complete probe

In a jolting verdict for the CBI special director Rakesh Asthana, the Delhi High Court has rejected his plea where he had said that the FIR registered against him must be quashed.

CBI officers Rakesh Asthana and Devender Kumar had earlier filed a plea in the court seeking quashing of an FIR against both the officers, which was filed by the sacked CBI director Alok Verma, who was shown the gate by a high powered committee led by PM Narendra Modi.


Delhi High Court has said, "No doubt, registration of an FIR against a public servant will be a cause of great concern and stress for the public servant. Charges under the FIR are a matter of investigation. It is important that law presumes a person is innocent until proven guilty."

Earlier, the Supreme Court had reinstated the CBI director Alok Verma, who had in his FIR, stated that Rakesh Asthana was responsible for taking bribe from a businessman Moin Qureshi in an investigation carried out by him.

The Delhi High Court has also taken away th einterim protection from both the officers wherein, now if the CBI wants it can arrest or investigate upon the both the officers.
