Defence Ministry gives green signal to admission of girl students in Sainik schools

Good news for girls who are willing to take admission in Sainik schools as Defence Ministry has given nod to the proposal.

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has given a green signal to the proposal for admission of girls in the Sainik schools from 2021 academic session in a phased manner.


Rajnath Singh has decided following the success of a pilot project started by the Defence Ministry for admission of girl children in Sainik school Chhingchhip in Mizoram two years ago, read a Ministry statement.

The Union Minister has directed the concerned authorities to ensure availability, infrastructure and sufficient female staff in Sainik schools for smooth implementation of the directive.

This decision is the objective of the government that will enable the participation of women in Armed Forces and also strengthening the motto of government i.e. ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’, the mission promoted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Notably, the Central government set up the first Sainik School in Stara, Maharashtra in 1961.
