Four security personnel lost their lives, while seven others were injured in an encounter with Naxals in Irpanar village of Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur district, on Wednesday.

The bodies of the deceased personnel - two Sub-Inspectors and two District Reserve Guard (DRG) Constables - have been brought to Narayanpur district headquarters.

The injured jawans are being brought to Raipur.

"There are probabilities of the Naxals suffering losses as well", Special DG anti-Naxal operations, DM Awasthi said.

"This is the first encounter between Naxals and security forces in the area", Awasthi told, adding that the region is one of the strongholds of Naxals.

The encounter broke out around 11:00 am today during the joint operation carried out by the DRG and the Special Task Force (STF) on the basis of Intelligence input, Awasthi informed.

Over 400 jawans from the DRG and STF were part of the anti-Naxal operation.
