The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Parliamentary meeting was held on Wednesday after which Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers Ananth Kumar appealed the Opposition to allow both Houses of Parliament to work smoothly as the Centre was ready to discuss farmers and other issues in an affirmative and convincing way.

Addressing mediapersons after the meeting, he said, "I appeal the Opposition to kindly allow both Houses of Parliament to work smoothly. We are ready to discuss farmers and other issues in an affirmative and convincing way."

The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, senior leader L.K. Advani, and other leaders of the party.

Praising the implementation of Centre's Goods and Service Tax (GST), Kumar further asserted that it is in the interest of people and states and for the development of the nation.

"The GST has been launched smoothly. It is in interest of people and states. The GST is beneficial for the development of the nation," he said.

The GST, which was rolled out at midnight on June 30, is expected to benefit all the stakeholders namely industry, government and consumer as it will lower the cost of goods and services give a boost to the economy and make the products and services globally competitive, giving a major boost to 'Make in India' initiative.

Under the GST regime, exports will be zero-rated in entirety unlike the present system where refund of some of the taxes does not take place due to fragmented nature of indirect taxes between the Centre and the States.

The GST will make India a common market with common tax rates and procedures and remove economic barriers.

The GST is largely technology driven and will reduce the human interface to a great extent. The GST is expected to improve the Ease of Doing Business in India.
