The Association of Citizens for Accountable Governance - popularly known as CAG - has been summoned by the tax authorities.

Under the leadership of Prashant Kishor, the outfit helped the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA win a landslide victory during 2014 general elections. The CAG, which was formed in 2013 - a year before the Lok Sabha elections - is under the scanner of the tax authorities, the Economic Times reported.

The daily reported that the Directorate General of Central Excise Intelligence in Nashik summoned the CAG to disclose the details of organisation's income and sources of income in the last four years.

On 26 April, MD Pekhale, superintendent, Central Excise Intelligence, issued a summons to the CAG and sent it to the company's address in Ahmedabad. The officials were asked to appear before the central excise authorities on 4 May. Revenue officials, who did not want to be named, told the Economic Times that the case is still on.

An enquiry into service tax obligations of the CAG is being conducted under the Finance Act 1994, the daily reported, adding that Vora has been asked to produce annual reports, bills, invoices, expenditure ledgers, bank statement with payment receipts among others.

The Economic Times also reported that the The Association of Citizens for Accountable Governance was officially registered in Mumbai on 12 July, 2013 as a private company limited by shares. Himanshu Anirudhsinh Chudasama and Nirav Rameshchandra Vora were listed as the company's directors.

The current status classifies the company's capital at Rs 100,000 and paid capital at Rs 1,000.

The company has also been asked to disclose its income ledgers for the review of its annual incomes, the ET reported. The notice continues any failure to produce the requested documents will be treated under section 174 and section 175 under Indian Penal Code.

The company's last annual General meeting was last held on 30 September 2014. It's balance sheet was filed on 31 March, 2014. The reports of CAG or IPAC doesn't list Kishor as chairman or director.

Prashant Kishor, who has parted ways with the BJP, now helms an organisation called the Indian Political Action Committee (IPAC). Kishor is currently working to help the Congress secure a win on the 2017 assembly elections in UP and Punjab.
